The next person you save from blindness could be you!
In developed countries
1 in 9 people 65 years or more will develop irreversible vision loss.
3% of people 40 years or more are blind or visually impaired.
40% of people with diabetes have at least mild signs of diabetic retinopathy.
Age-related macular degeneration is a leading cause of vision loss in people
60 years or more
About 10% of the population 40 years or more has elevated
eye pressure, a precursor to glaucoma.
So far through CSFII, Lions have provided funding for
Low-vision services
Childhood-blindness programs
Eyeglass-recycling centers and programs
Diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma-control programs
Cataract surgeries
Trachoma-control programs
River-blindness treatments
By raising an additional US $50 million, some of the programs that
may be funded in your community and around the world include:
Early training for blind children and their families
Regional education centers to produce Braille and large-print
materials for visually impaired children
Major research initiatives that could help people afflicted with
macular degeneration
Vision care for people with developmental disabilities through
Special Olympics Opening Eyes Program
Mobile-eye units to offer services in inner cities and for the
working poor
Every 30 seconds, six people go blind.
