LION PATTY NUTTER

HARRISVILLE LIONS CLUB
Greetings to all District 29L Lions.
It has been a very busy two months, and I know from your
monthly activity reports that most of you are doing
service projects that benefit the citizens in your
community, your district/state, and on the International
level.
I would like to encourage each Zone Chairperson and each
club president to contact the MERLO team members for a
program. We want to strengthen the clubs in our district
by increasing membership, forming new clubs, retaining
members, and providing leadership opportunities for all
interested Lions. We also encourage all Lions to
participate in the orientation program. Please contact
the following team members for a program: Membership:
PDG Lion Richard McMillan (304.873.1353); Extension:
Lion Lowell McAfee (304.873.2129);
Leadership/Orientation: PDG Lion Eva Dague
(304.845.7647).
Our International President, Sid Scruggs’ theme is ―A
Beacon of Hope‖. He encourages all Lions to participate
in four special service action campaigns this year. They
are: August-Engaging Youth; October-Sharing the Vision;
December/January-Relieving the Hunger; April-Promoting
the Planet. Please visit the LCI website (www.lionsclubs.org)
for more information on these programs.
IP Scruggs invites each Lion to pledge ―to support and
participate in your Lions club’s service activities and
to make a difference in someone’s life this year‖.
Please visit the LCI website and sign the pledge. ―Your
personal efforts can bring light where there is darkness
and despair. Lions can have a huge impact on the entire
world‖.
A special thanks to each of you for being a ―Lion‖!
Yours in Lionism,
Lion Patty Nutter, 1st VDG
MERLO Team Chairperson

LION ROBERT MOFFETT
rmoffett@ma.rr.com
FAIRMONT LIONS CLUB
As I vacationed with family, away from home with no
telephone, no cell service and no Internet available, I
found myself catching up on the news on those older
media — television and radio. The big story dealt with
the flooding in Pakistan. It was horrible flooding and
so many had to flee their homes, in addition to the
lives lost. However, I knew that the Lions would be
there providing relief and I felt hope for the people.
When I returned home, and only a few hours before
writing this, I watched video on YouTube — that newer
medium — showing the Pakistani Lions in action with
rescue gear and later with needed supplies. LCIF is
providing over $120,000 to help these Lions get relief
to their communities.
As has been the case following other disasters at home
and round the world, Lions truly are ―A Beacon of Hope.‖
You and I are a part of that relief, just as the
Pakistani Lions were part of the flood relief provided
by Lions in West Virginia earlier this year. That is
part of what makes Lions so important to me — knowing
that where there are Lions, there is hope for the future
and we are in it together. Please continue bringing that
hope to people in your communities. It may be as simple
as mowing the grass for a handicapped person, as West
Liberty Lions Club members did, or it may be providing a
pair of glasses to help somebody see better in order to
land that job, as many of our clubs do. Thanks to all of
you Lions for being there in somebody’s time of need.
As I write this, I wish to thank 32 of our district
clubs who have paid the first-half dues. I am still
waiting to receive the dues payments from 13 clubs. We
have already sent our share to th multiple district for
this half, and prompt payment from these remaining clubs
would be greatly appreciated. If your club has not
received a statement for any reason, please contact me.
Thanks very much.
