Youth Exchange Update.
Alexa Talkington, a 16 year
old junior at Tyler Consolidated High School, has applied to the WV Lions Youth
Exchange program,
with plans to travel to Australia this summer for a month long exchange. The WV
Lions YE Committee sponsors a scholarship
contest each fall to help with travel expenses for such trips; unfortunately,
Alexa did not apply to our program until after the
contest’s completion.
Nevertheless, Alexa hopes to take part in the program and is working toward the
funding she needs. If any club, or any
individual, in District L would like to make a donation to the WV
Lions Youth Exchange program, and designate it for Alexa Talkington’s trip, you
may do so by sending your checks to:
Lion Linda Ott, Secretary/Treasurer,
3 Lakeland Park Drive, Bridgpeort,
WV 26330. (Checks are payable to WV Lions Youth Exchange).
We will set aside those donations so designated for her, and your club will
receive an acknowledgment of the donation. Alexa is the
only student in District L’s area that is traveling with the Youth
Exchange program this year. Any donation, small or large, will be appreciated.
Alexa is the daughter of Mark and Melinda Talkington. She is active in National
Honor Society, yearbook staff and is an officer in
the Tyler FFA. She has received the following awards: Top 10% of Class; 4.0
honor roll; National Honor Roll, Who’s Who Among High School Students, Ohio
Valley Athletic Conference All-
Conference Academic Team, Student of the Month and Top
Science Fair Project. Alexa is a well rounded and motivated young lady who will
be a very good ambassador from our state. Her
grandfather, Paul Hill, has been a Lion since 1971.
Thanks for considering this request.
Lion Cindy Glass, MD 29 YE Chair.
