―Grow and Serve‖ is the theme chosen by District Governor Jeff
Baxter for 2010-2011. This works very well as it pertains to our
District clubs; however, let us take it one step further. Why not
relate it to the 11, 12, 13 year olds in our schools via the Peace
Poster Contest?
Every Lions Club in District 29-L should be sponsoring a Peace
Poster Contest in their local schools. What better way to let
parents and teachers know about your Lions Club than to take a
genuine interest in the school children. ―G.A.S.‖
The theme for this year’s Peace Poster Contest is ―Vision of Peace‖.
Students who are 11, 12, or 13 on November 15, 2010 are eligible to
be participants. Twenty- four international finalists are chosen
each year with the winning artist receiving a cash prize of $2500.00
and an engraved plaque. The 23 merit award winners each receive a
$500.00 cash award and a certificate of achievement.
Order your kits now! $9.95 plus shipping and handling. It will be
one of the best investments for the future of your clubs. Allow the
students in your community schools to share their Vision of Peace
with your membership and the world. This can be a wonderful
opportunity for all of us.

For many years, the West Virginia Lions Sight Conservation
Foundation has funded two (2) Mobile Eye Screening United. Both of
these units have served District and the state well. In fact, once
again the number 2 unit (the larger of the two) will be at the
District 29-L Memorial Dan Dague Car and Bike Show on Labor Day at
the Highlands.
Last year, the Sight Foundation Trustees decided that in addition to
these two units, portable eye screening instruments would be
purchased for each district. I am truly excited about the
possibilities these portable machines will provide the Lions of West
Virginia. Each District now has a portable Tonometer (puff machine),
Visual Accuity Machine, as well as an adjustable table.
District 29-L Coordinators for this equipment are Lions Ruth and
Walter Caldwell of the West Liberty Lions Club. You can schedule
training, as well as obtaining the equipment for your club’s eye
screening events, by calling Lion Ruth/Walter
at 304.336.7479 or e-mail
silverfox_jess@frontier.net Planning is underway for
multiple club training session on the equipment in the near future.
None of this would be possible without the support of the Lions of
West Virginia. Please continue your club’s financial support to
allow the Foundation to continue to provide vision and hearing
services for the many West Virginians who qualify for this service.
THANK YOU!

The
West Virginia Lions Sight Foundation is in the process of working on two
major fund raisers:
Question: WHERE’S THE BEEF?
Answer: In Harrisville on Lion Paul and VDG Patty Nutter’s farm.
Lion Paul is fattening the cow so it will be ready in November!
WHAT’S THE BEEF
The Foundation is selling tickets on quarters of the beef to be packaged
and delivered to 4 winners in November.
Each quarter will be in excess of 100 pounds with 20% being steak, 20%
roast and 60% ground. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.
Tickets can be purchased from PDG Paul Amrhein, PID Larry Johnson, Lion
Paul Nutter or PDG Steve Beecroft.
Fellow Lions:(1) Lion Steve Beecroft is
compiling an inventory of supplies for the Food Booth for the Labor
Day Car Show. He is asking that IF you have purchased pop
products and plan to donate them to the event, please let him know
exactly what you have so that he can purchase only those items which
are needed. As of now, he is still in need of Coke products.
Please either e-mail Lion Steve at
sfbenterprises@comcast.net or
call him at 304.277.2238. He needs to hear from you by Wednesday,
Sept. 1st. - THANK YOU!
(2) Lion Ruth Caldwell indicated that she reported an
incorrect address for her new e-mail. It should be: silverfox_jess@frontier.com
It is important to make this change now as Lions Ruth and Walter are
the District coordinators of the WVLSCF Portable Equipment, and this
is one means to contact them to schedule the equipment. Their home
phone is 304.336.7479. THANK YOU!

Lions,
All Clubs need to fully support this "Outstanding Service
Project". Not only will this tournament bring a great day into
the lives of the visually impaired, but it also is an
opportunity to show the people of the communities around the
state what the "LIONS" are all about. We begin with West
Virginia and can possibly show the Nation our commitment to
"WE SERVE".
The enclosures are supplied in Word and pdf format for your
convenience.
